The recipient of the 2018 Emma L. Cunningham Memorial Scholarship is Catuxa Montemuino from East Side High School.
Catuxa will be attending Rutgers University and majoring in Biology in the fall. Excerpt from Catuxa’s essay: "When I am sitting in a room discussing all the injustices that urban students deal with in their education on a daily basis and when I am standing in the front-line of a protest with a bullhorn in my hand delivering lines with a burning passion and standing up to the system that crushes women like me, immigrants like me, students like me, and people like, this is when I use all the power that my culture has implanted in me...."
